Who is your favorite artist?

“Salvador Dali is my favorite artist. I admire his creative, extraordinary mind. He did not have an easy life, however, somehow he managed to fly above his tough surroundings to create otherworldly and inspirational paintings. I would never be able to even imagine where he began to create such paintings. As he pushes the boundaries of my creative horizons, he is my favorite artist.”

Who and what inspire you?

“Not one thing in particular, but in general it’s people and life itself. For example, my painting depicts war, it is either people or events that are happening or just in general life itself. “

What does being an artist mean to you?

“Being an artist is about expressing your point of view about things which are important to you, through brush strokes.”

How would you describe your painting style?

“I can’t say l have a particular style. I just paint as I feel it, but it’s more towards realism.

What is the idea behind your painting?

“The name of the painting is Hope For Peace. I tried to express that we have war in different parts of our world and nobody wants to face it because it is horrible and destructive. The girl in the painting has a hopeful vision for peace, which I show through her big sunglasses. The blue sky and the bird, it represents hopeful peace.”

What’s your favorite “arty” place in Dubai?

“I always visit big exhibitions called Art Dubai, which happen once a year in Madinat Jumeirah. I also like to visit the Dubai Art exhibitions that happen in World Trade Center once a year. There are also art galleries in Al Serkal Avenue in Al Quoz, so sometimes I visit these just to get some inspiration.”

What quote inspires you?

“The best or nothing.”

Who is your favorite artist?

“I have been influenced by both Van Gogh & Frida Kahlo as they express exactly the artistic style I’ve become very accustomed to which is expressionism. Their techniques and ideas are all about projecting one’s emotions and connecting ideas to one’s feelings, it resonates with my style.”

Where do you draw inspiration from?

“My surroundings … my life, the people around me, my emotions and my feelings.

What does being an artist mean to you?

“Ever since I’ve gone back to painting after years of procrastination, I found that art can truly be the perfect way to express myself. It liberates my ideas, emotions, and allows me to demonstrate what I think on a canvas. ”

What’s the idea behind your painting?

“The theme for level 2 was ‘Poetic Justice’ so I selected a quote which I’ve been fascinated with for a long time, which is from the Invictus poem by William Ernest Henley, ‘I am the master of my faith, I am the captain of my soul’ … In the hope that my painting will reflect the deep meanings of the quote.”

How would you describe your painting style in general?

“I’ve gone through two painting levels through which we could learn different types of techniques. I could discover my love for painting landscapes but emulating a still object was not my best stroke of art as it didn’t involve my inner creativity. In the level 1 masterpiece, I used both painting and collage style to express the deep thoughts of the theme ‘Peace’, however, in level 2 masterpiece, I wanted to go one level up and took inspiration from Van Gogh’s style of strokes.”

What is your favorite arty place in Dubai?

“Without a doubt,  it is Alserkal Avenue. The place makes you feel like you are in a completely different world. The Jam Jar, which is also located in Alserkal Avenue, is a place where you can be your own artistic self, in an open studio. A unique place on its own.”

Who is your favorite artist?

“I don’t have a favorite artist but I find Edvard Munch, Picasso and Gustav Klimt very inspirational.”

What/ Who inspires you?

“I think Edvard Munch is quite inspiring because of his motives. He is for example the artist of ‘The Scream’ and ‘The Night After’ which are two cool paintings where you really want to know what the story behind the painting might be”

What does being an artist mean to you?

“Being an artist means more than just painting beautiful paintings, it’s about telling a story and affect the viewer.

How would you describe your painting style?

“That’s a very difficult one. I would say normally abstract expressionist, but during this course I definitely tried some new styles and techniques, which was a lot of fun. It has broaden my perspective.”

What is the idea behind your painting?

“It’s about a girl sitting in the middle of the street, in a grey, dark, urban environment. The little girl is picking up a flower, and this flower is the symbol of hope.

Even though we are covering our planet with concrete, roads, cities and plastic, there is still hope for the environment. The flower is representing this hope for the environment.”

What is your favorite “arty” place in Dubai?

“I would say the Al Serkal Avenue, it’s a very cool place.”
